"The best new band of 1996" --Dan Smith

I totally agree, Dan! I fell in love with these guys the first time
I heard this song driving home from a guitar lesson, and bought the
album a bit later. This song is based on electrics, but there is an
acoustic playing so I'm putting it up (I also need an excuse to figure
it out). Well, I found out that there are only 4 chords repeated in
the same order for the verse and chorus, so you should have problem
with this one. Lyrics by Randy Chase and Christine Consolvo.

Capo 3rd INTRO: D A Em7 G D A Em7 G D A The sirens ring, the shots ring out Em7 G A stranger cries screams out loud D A I had my world strapped against my back Em7 G I held my hands and never knew how to act
CHORUS D A Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me Em7 And now it's drawn me in G Sixth Avenue heartache D A Em7 G Below me there was a homeless man Singing songs I knew complete On the steps alone, his guitar in hand His fifty years stood where he stands
CHORUS Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache D A Em7 G Walkin' home on those streets The river wind moved my feet The subway steam like silhouettes in dreams Stood by me just like moonbeams
CHORUS Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache D A Em7 G D A Em7 G I looked out the window Down upon that street And gone like a midnight was that man But I see his six strings laid against that wall And all his things, they all look so small I got my fingers crossed on a shooting star Just like me, just moved on
CHORUS Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache D A Em7 G Well the same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me And now it's drawn me in Sixth Avenue heartache D A Em7 G D A Em7 G (fades out)
You could also play the song Capo 1st using these chords: E B F#m7 A
